Buying a second hand mobile phone can be an excellent way to save money, and ensure that you get your hands on the exact model you want without paying full price.

However, it’s important to remember that with any used electronic device, there are some risks attached to purchasing it.

Here are five things to do before making the decision to purchase that second hand mobile phone so you don’t regret it later on.

1) Check the IMEI number

A quick way to find out if the device is stolen or blacklisted is to run a check on the IMEI number.

This is the only way to find out if it has been reported lost or stolen. You can do this by sending an SMS with *#06# to any short code in your country and waiting for confirmation that the IMEI has been found.

If it's not found, this means that the device is fine and hasn't been reported as lost or stolen.

2) Check the date of manufacture

1. Check the date of manufacture. The lifespan of any given battery is typically between 18-24 months, but older phones are more likely to have batteries that are in poor condition or require frequent charging.

2. If it's an iPhone or high-end Android device, it may be worth examining what version of operating system it's running and whether there are any updates available for the phone, which can help improve performance and security features.

3. Make sure the device comes with all its original accessories (charger, cables, earphones)

4. If the device was bought secondhand from someone you don't know, make sure they haven't stolen your personal data by resetting their own password and emptying the contents of their address book and text messages

5. Read reviews of the seller. Look at customer feedback on eBay, Amazon Marketplace, Gumtree and Preloved

3) Check all features

If you're planning to buy a second hand mobile, it's best to make sure it has all the features and functions that are important for your needs. Here are five things to check:

1) What size screen does it have? A large screen is great for watching videos and movies, but too big can be difficult to carry around.

2) Is there a front-facing camera? This is usually for video chats, so if that's something you use often, make sure the phone has this feature.

3) Does the speaker work well? If not, that could be an issue if no one else will be available to help answer your calls.

4) Is there enough storage space on the device?

4) Test it in your area

First, ask the person how they would feel about giving up their old phone. If this is something that is important to them, ask them if they will allow you to try the phone for a few days or weeks so that you can be sure it meets your needs and does not have any problems.

This will also give the seller time to get their new device and remove all of their data from the old one.

Next, test out the phone to see if it can meet your needs. Do this by going through your typical day in order to determine what apps or features are needed on your device.

Afterward, write down all of these features and compare them with what's offered on the old device being considered.

5) Search internet for authenticity report

Some people buy new phones and resell their old ones to make extra money. But if you're considering purchasing a used phone, be sure to use these five quick steps first:

1. Check the device's IMEI number on the manufacturer's website or with your carrier to see if it has been reported stolen.

2. Call the carrier to check whether they can unlock the device, and ask if there are any outstanding payments on it.

3. Take the device to your wireless provider to ensure that it will work on their network, or perform an Internet search for unlocking service for instructions on how to unlock it yourself.

4. If the battery is removable, take it out and compare its serial number with what is written on the back of the phone.
